Sumner County Trustee
Marty Nelson

Welcome to Sumner County Trustee’s site.

The Sumner County Trustee’s Office continually strives to find and offer new services to benefit our taxpayers.  We hope that you find these services helpful.

Online Research and Payment

You may research your property tax account to verify the amount of your taxes or that your mortgage company has paid your taxes.  Online payment can be made by credit card or e-check. Partial payments cannot be made online or at local banks.   Sumner County does not receive any portion of the convenience fee.

Payment Options

Payment of property taxes can be made in our office, at our drive-thru window, by mail, online,  at participating area banks or drop your payment in our convenient drop box at our drive- thru.  A listing of participating banks can be found on the back of your 2009 Property Tax Notice.  Tax Relief payments cannot be accepted at the drive-thru or at area banks.

Partial Payments available for 2009 Taxes

To begin making partial payments the taxpayer must sign a partial payment agreement in the Trustee's Office.

The current  “2009”  taxes are due and payable beginning October 1,  2009 through February 28,  2010.

********************************************************

The Trustee generally acts as treasurer or banker for the county and serves three primary functions:  (1) collecting all county property taxes (all property, real and personal, tangible and intangible, must be assessed for taxation by the state or its political subdivisions unless property is declared to be exempt by some provision of Tennessee law); (2) keeping a fair regular account of all money received; and (3) investing temporarily idle county funds.

The Trustee administers a State funded Tax Relief Program to help the elderly, disabled, and disabled veterans (or surviving spouse of a disabled veteran or veteran whose death resulted from a service-connected cause) pay their property taxes.  In addition, the Trustee administers a Tax Freeze Program for the County and a portion of Sumner County cities.  Applications must be completed no later than 35 days after the February tax payment deadline.  FAQ:  http://www.comptroller.state.tn.us/pa/patxr.htm
